General Porpoise Doughnuts (Seattle, WA)

General Porpoise Doughnuts (Seattle, WA) – When I came across this donut shop, I made sure to incorporate it into my itinerary. Donuts are always a fun way to treat yourself on a trip!

This Seattle trip was in the making for several months. What started out as an idea my sister threw out there for a cousins trip, actually came together with us narrowing down a bunch of cities, making sample itineraries to decide which city was our top choice, and then finally making a selection. I now have travel lists for 5 other cities – so guess I have some trips planned out for the future.

We had three full days in Seattle, which was great because it was my first time there – and we were traveling with my 1.5 year old niece. And one benefit of traveling with a baby is you’re going to wake up early everyday – mostly because I wanted to play with her. šŸ˜‚

Since everyone needed coffee to get through the day, those of us who were ready decided to make a quick trip to GP to get some breakfast donuts and coffee. The General Porpoise in Capitol Hill is so cute! I love how light and airy it is and the pops of pink, like with their espresso machine and the door! The garage door front is also a really great feature.

GP specializes in filled donuts, and they have rotating flavors – I’m not sure how often they switch it up though, since over a month later most of the flavors we tried are still on the menu. It’s also interesting that they only do about six flavors, but I guess it’s better to have quality over quantity! They also serve coffee using local roasters in the Pacific Northwest.

We got a couple of donuts to enjoy and eat, and brought a boxful back to the house were staying out. I like jams, and a Plum Jam is nice and tart – just like I like it. Their donuts are nice and soft, and I liked the jam a lot. I will say that the sugar got all over me though haha. We also got the Huckleberry Cream, which was okay. It didn’t have a very distinct flavor, so it was underwhelming. I did later try the Vanilla and Lemon ones because we did another donut run – and those were really good!

The coffee was actually the biggest hit in our group! We all got vanilla lattes – and loved that it was vanilla bean. You could see the little speckles in the drink. It was perfectly sweet and not bitter at all, just the way I like it. In fact, we were so into the coffee, that we later visited Elm Coffee Roasters (one of the Seattle roasters they use) an got coffee there too!

I would totally come back to General Porpoise Doughnuts – in fact, I think it’d be really fun to visit all of their locations! Each shop has a different look and a different menu. Also how fun is the porpoise from their logo? So cute!
