I live in the Bay Area and I like food.
Hi, hello. I can't believe it's April already! I honestly don't mind the rain too much because it's keeping everyone inside and safe, ha. It is the perfect weather for cozy latte ad a donut or two or five - and Bun Appetit donuts is still open doing take out orders! This was one of the last time I hung out with a friend - and back when I didn't just live in pajamas all day (100% by choice, because I love pajamas). I've been a little overwhelmed with what the Bay Area restaurants I follow are up to and need, whether they're providing curbside pick up or have launched fundraisers to support their employees, so I decided to compile all of that information into a handy dandy spreadsheet (I never thought I'd become a spreadsheet person). You can find it on the blog (link in bio), and I'll try to update it every few days since things are changing so rapidly. If you're able to, please try and support our Bay Area restaurants, small food businesses, and coffee shops! It's a tough time for everyone, but I hope we get through this soon. 🙏🏼
👋🏼 Hi, it's been a minute. I hope everyone's STAYING HOME, staying safe and staying healthy. I'm thankful to be able to pass the time by working (and to have a job!), zoom chatting/FaceTiming family and friends, and eating, lol. Honestly, my day to day hasn't changed very much because apparently I don't go out much. 😂 And I started distancing myself from people awhile ago as an immunocompromised person + living with high risk people, sooo I've been home for awhile. Anyway, last week my sister and I put together an end of the week tea party! We made tea sandwiches, brownies, lemon cookies, and biscuits. It came together really well and it was a good way to pass time making all of the food. I'll be back with more food soon since I have a backlog of photos to share - I'm trying not to spend TOO much time on social media tbh, it wears me out. (Except TikTok, because it's hilarious and now I'm addicted, you were right, @city.en.vogue). ☕️
I tried Uyghur cuisine for the first time a few months ago - hidden in a strip mall in Union City. Ever since I saw their feature in the @sfchronicle, I knew I had to check it out at some point, especially since I know such little about their culture, aside from the fact that I knew there was a region in China with a Muslim population as a child, and now in more recent years, all of the news of their persecution in the country. Uyghur cuisine is an interesting mix of East and Central Asian flavors - I was reminded a lot of Turkish and Afghan food as I tried the dishes we ordered. Also, when you go, get the Ziq Kawap (lamb or meat skewers)! Learn more on the blog, link in bio. 🍢
Daylight Savings starting (shouldn’t be ending since the days are getting longer and we get more sun?) really messed me up today, so instead of a new blog post, here's some cheese board/charcuterie inspo. Now, I'm off to go bake a cake and hope I'll have it done and frosted by dinner time (we eat late lol). 🙈
It's been a blah few weeks with everything that's happening, so here's a pretty picture of my mom's freshly cooked biryani. 😍 Oh, and the recipe is on the blog (link in bio) if you want to try it out yourself! It's vegetarian too!
the prettiest shop for the prettiest macarons. 🌸
