ACADEMIC COFFEE (San Jose, CA) – I have seen some of my blogger and real life friends post about this coffee pop up, and I was super excited to hear that it was in San Jose! Everything new and exciting is always in SF, so it always makes me happy to see cool things happening in other parts of the Bay Area.

I finally stopped by a couple of days ago, when it was like 90 degrees in San Jose. Super hot. There is street parking, but a lot of it was already taken thanks to the farmer’s market further down on the block. There are public parking lots as well – but they aren’t super cheap. I clearly haven’t been to SJ in awhile.

Currently, Academic Coffee is operating out of Five Points, a bar on Santa Clara Street. The bar itself is really cool inside, and it fits in with the “academic” theme. There’s this cute lounge room right at the front of the shop filled with books and globes, making you feel like you’re chilling in a library. Totally my aesthetic. The coffee machines are located right in front, but you can sit wherever to wait or sip on your coffee. They have pastries from Firebrand Bread, which looked so good, but I was in a rare mood just for drinks.

Anyway, I intended to come in for a hot latte, but because it was too hot for that, I ordered a Mint Iced Latte. I’m a big fan of the Mint Mojito at Philz, so I had a good feeling about it. You can customize it by selecting which type of milk you want, such as soy or coconut milk. AND IT’S AMAZING. They use Temple Coffee currently, and that coffee is smooth af. The mint is nicely dispersed throughout the drink and it isn’t overpowering. You don’t get any of those acerbic notes of coffee – in fact, it just tastes pleasant. It was so perfect, in fact, that I didn’t add any sugar. And I didn’t regret that one bit. That’s incredibly rare for me.

The owner is really friendly, and they’re hoping to open up their store front in June! I really can’t wait to come back once their own shop is open to try out more of their drinks while getting my intellectual on.
