I live in the Bay Area and I like food.
"Ignorance, allied with power, is the most ferocious enemy justice can have." - James Baldwin I'm not really sure what else to say that hasn't been expressed via my IG stories (that #blacklivesmatter, that non-black POC need to do work in their own communities to address their own anti-blackness, and more), so if you're *still* confused on what else you can do to support, there's a link in my bio to: 1️⃣ Educate yourself 2️⃣ Educate the people in your life if they still don't understand what's happening or choose to stay silent (bc silence is complicity) 3️⃣ Donate to organizations and businesses 4️⃣ Sign petitions 5️⃣ Vote - ESPECIALLY at the state, county, and city level I'll add more resources as I come across them. I know a lot of people/content creators on social media are pausing on posting their usual content for the next week - and I'll definitely be joining. #southasiansforblacklives
Eid Mubarak! Spent the day at home but got dressed up, ate a lot of food, went for a drive (including to a Starbucks drive-thru! My first outside coffee in 3 months!), and virtually spent time with family and friends. 🤍 Since we spent Ramadan having different Pakistani desserts every week, we made donuts, banoffee pie, and kulfi (Pakistani ice cream) instead. Yes, we like dessert. I was going to make pastel glazes, but I switched it up to an ombre at the last minute - it came out better than I thought! 🍩
Shami kebabs are so versatile. You can have it as part of a fancier meal with rotis or rice, or keep it casual and on the go between slices of bread or a burger bun. They come packed with a lot of flavor and super easy to freeze and take out for an easy meal. Find the recipe on the blog; link in bio!
I know I always bring the Biryani back, but it’s always the perfect dish - especially for Eid. Consider it a Throwback Thursday even though today’s my Friday, my brain’s checked out for the day, time is a construct, and there’s no rules. Mostly, I’m satisfied that I got my mom to write down one of her recipes because she, of course, doesn’t have a recipe and it’s all in her head, so it’s like pulling teeth when I sit her down and ask her to walk me through it. But it’s documented, so you can always find it on the blog which is through my link in my bio.
The easiest dinner last night - sheet pan sweet potato nachos. Roasted sweet potatoes are delicious, especially when it gets all nice and blackened. 😍 Sadly, there were barely any leftovers. 🍠 🥑
For once, having a 9 AM meeting on a Monday morning wasn't that bad. Today I hosted a flat lay food styling workshop for my team - all over video conference. I put my phone on a gooseneck phone holder and angled it so I could show what was happening overhead as I styled my setup and joined our meeting from there while also on my laptop like I usually do. I wasn't sure how it'd be since I am not a professional photographer or really taken a photography class, but I think we all had a good time - and my team captured beautiful photos! 📷 This was my setup - which I did a test run with yesterday because I'm actually pretty slow in real time when gathering my props... I'll think about it, walk away for a bit, browse my phone, talk to someone and come back and repeat until I feel somewhat satisfied. Oh, and make sure I'm not working on an empty stomach because I get hangry and frustrated, otherwise. 😅
